In a city built on water but now gasping for it, their fight to preserve the chinampas is also a fight to protect the wetlands and freshwater that sustain life itself. Fueled by a potent sense of community and the unwavering support of Mexico City's culinary luminaries, they confront the climate crisis head-on — embarking on an impassioned mission to uphold this remarkable Indigenous knowledge and imploring the world to rediscover and embrace their own pre-colonial food systems for the future of our planet.

En el corazón de los últimos canales de la Ciudad de México, un padre y su hijo se unen para resistir la urbanización y la explotación de su herencia indígena, impulsados por un propósito inquebrantable: salvaguardar la sabiduría transformadora de este antiguo sistema de permacultura regenerativa basado en el agua. En una ciudad construida sobre lagos, pero que hoy agoniza por la falta de agua, su lucha por preservar las chinampas es también una lucha por proteger los humedales y el agua dulce que sostienen la vida misma. The themes of The Last Floating Garden play out in the personal story of a father and son struggling to maintain their farm, depicting the loss of exploiting indigenous cultures for the sake of urbanization and shallow economic progress. The untimely death of our protagonist Don Felipe illustrates the urgency of The Last Floating Garden message—without protection, support, and dissemination, a farming practice that has sustained people for centuries will soon disappear. With your help, we can document this Indigenous agricultural practice while offering it as a solution to fighting contemporary food insecurity and climate breakdown in Mexico City — and beyond.
